South Korean President Jae-in Moon officially appointed Hong-Jo Chun, diplomat with extensive experience in Latin America, as the new Ambassador for Spain. Mr. Chun, 56, joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984 and later served over the years secretaries and advisers in South Korean Embassies in Canada, El Salvador, Libya or Chile. In 2002 he was also director of the division for Latin America and the Caribbean in the Foreign Ministry and between 2012 and 2016 he was Ambassador in Costa Rica.
Mr. Chun, who graduated in English from the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, will replace Hee-Kwon Park as Ambassador, who has been leading the South Korean legation in Madrid since 2014.
