Mr. Augusto Hidalgo, mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or “Las Palmas” – capital of Gran Canaria Island and co-capital of Canary Islands – met ESCCK President, Mr. Ernest Ribas, as part of his meetings with institutions and companies in Korea. The objective of the mission was to explore new business opportunities and develop Co-opeation programs that will be followed up by the Korean delegation who will visit Las Palmas in the following months.
Canary Islands hold relevant ties with South Korea as it has one of the biggest Korean communities in Spain. Maritime sector and fishing industry represent a relevant portion of Las Palmas economy as well as it happens in Busan, a city that the Spanish delegation also visited. In Busan, Mr. Hidalgo attended the inauguration of World Fisheries University Program, a pilot program unique in the world.
Mr. Hidalgo and the political representatives of more than 30 different countries were invited to visit the country by Korean Foundation, a diplomatic non-profit organization founded in 1991.
